Injectable Weight Loss Pens: Ozempic, Wegovy & Mounjaro

Weight loss pens contain a prescription only medication that comes in a pre-filled pen that is self-administered at home once a week.
Collectively, they are known  as GLP-1 treatments and they work by mimicking a natural hormone in your gut called Semaglutide. This hormone regulates your blood sugar levels and keeps you feeling full for longer. It also signals to your brain to reduce your appetite by slowing down digestion. Many people on this medication notice at big reduction in “food noise” which is that constant feeling of hunger, thinking about food and wanting something to snack on.
 

Ozempic (Semaglutide)

Ozempic is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics a natural hormone in the body responsible for regulating blood sugar, slowing digestion, and reducing appetite. By enhancing insulin production in response to meals and delaying stomach emptying, Ozempic helps lower blood sugar levels and often leads to weight loss as a secondary benefit.

Although primarily licensed for diabetes management, Ozempic is sometimes prescribed off-label for weight loss due to its effectiveness in reducing appetite and body weight. It is given as a once-weekly injection. Common side effects include nausea, constipation, and fatigue, especially when starting treatment. It has become increasingly popular due to its dual effect on blood sugar and weight control.

Wegovy (Semaglutide)

Wegovy is a higher-dose version of semaglutide, specifically approved for weight management rather than diabetes. It is recommended for adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or those who are overweight (BMI ≥27) with associated health conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol.

Wegovy is also injected once weekly and works by activating the GLP-1 receptor, which reduces appetite, improves insulin sensitivity, and slows down digestion. This leads to a feeling of fullness and, over time, significant weight loss. Clinical trials have shown average weight loss of around 15% of body weight, making it one of the most effective non-surgical weight loss options available. Side effects can include nausea, diarrhoea, and tiredness, particularly in the early stages of treatment.

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)

Mounjaro is a newer medication for type 2 diabetes that has also shown exceptional results in weight loss. It contains tirzepatide, a dual-action compound that activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. This unique mechanism helps regulate blood sugar, decrease appetite, and support substantial weight reduction, often outperforming semaglutide-based medications in clinical trials.

Like Ozempic and Wegovy, Mounjaro is administered as a once-weekly injection. It is currently licensed for type 2 diabetes, but is being fast-tracked globally for obesity treatment due to its powerful weight loss effects—some patients lose over 20% of their body weight. Side effects are similar to other GLP-1 medications and may include nausea, digestive upset, and appetite suppression, especially when beginning treatment.

 

This isn’t a decision that you need to make on your own. You will be invited for a free consultation with Juliette to discuss your weight loss goals, lifestyle and eating habits. She will then consult with her prescriber on your behalf to determine the best medication and dose for you. 

Injectable weight loss treatments are suitable for people with a BMI over 30. For individuals with weight related health concerns, they may be eligible with a BMI over 27. These related concerns include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and raised cholesterol.
If you have Type 2 diabetes and a BMI less than 27, we can’t prescribe you injectable GLP-1 treatments for weight loss.
Injectable weight loss medication comes in a pre-filled pen. It needs to be used once weekly, on the same day. The pen itself is simple to use and the needles are very small, so it’s relatively pain-free and easy to get used to.
Treatments can be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm at any time during the day, with or without food. It’s recommended that you use it around the same time each week — this will regulate the medication’s effectiveness.
You’ll receive clear instructions with your first order on the specifics for applying your treatment confidently. Our team are also on hand to answer any questions.
Your treatment starts at a low dose and then increases every four weeks. When you first start treatment, you’ll be prescribed the starting dose to use once a week, for four weeks. The dose will then be increased after every four weeks until you reach the recommended maintenance dose.
The team  will review your weight with every order to ensure this product is working for you. This way we can ensure the dose which you peak at is optimal for you.

Before you can order a prescription for a weight loss pen you will have to fill in a medical form and questionnaire. Once we have received this you will be invited for a free consultation to discuss your BMI and assess your goals and expectations for losing weight. If you are medically suitable for treatment  we will provide you with a prescribed pen and accessories for your 4 doses for your first 28 days of treatment. It’s important to store it in a refrigerator between 2–8°C. Injectable treatments come in a single-dose pen that requires no mixing. You will also receive:

  • A sharps bin with your first order
  • Swabs to clean the skin area prior to injecting
  • An instruction leaflet
  • Extra tips that can help you lose weight

You will be monitored monthly and guided on when to increase your dose. 

You are not tied in to a monthly programme so you can stop ordering at any time. 

Please note; once medication is sent and received by you it is non-refundable. 

Like all medicines, injectable GLP-1 treatments can cause side effects, including nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea. Not everybody experiences them, but if you do, they usually settle after a few weeks once you get used to the medication. One of the reasons for the gradual increase in medication every four weeks is to give your body the chance to tolerate the medication so that these side effects are less likely to happen or be less problematic.
If you develop abdominal pain, severe stomach problems or severe dehydration whilst taking this medication, you should seek medical advice immediately and advise that you are using this medication.
If you develop signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty in breathing, rash, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, then you should also seek help immediately.
